This is a funny story, even if it isn't mine. Their flight arrives at 9:30 PM. Dad, Mom, James, Jared were at the airport waiting.. mostly to see Quinn. Larry arrives right on time- didn't have to wait to see them, they were already off the plane, Mom had Quinn, and all was well. Then they wait for their luggage. At our airport this usually isn't a big deal since it is so small. This time, they wait & watch.. then wait & watch some more. They have everything but 1 bag. Where could it be? Oh no! Panic- they've lost our bag! What was in that bag? Was it J2's? He couldn't even borrow anyone else's clothes, if it was Tiff's she could borrow from me, Quinn- well he COULD borrow from Amelia - worst case scenario.
Inevitably, J2 & Larry go and stand in line to see what happened. It's a pretty long line so something crazy must be happening at the airports. At this point I've talked to Larry as I am sitting at home waiting... and waiting. Since they have 2 cars, I suggest they bring Tiff & Quinn back to the house so I don't have to wait any longer. So, Dad, Mom, James, & Jared are on their way to drop off Tiff & Quinn. Larry calls, are they there yet? No, not yet. Then he explains that J2 needs the luggage number of their other bag. (Apparently the customer service guy wasn't very nice. Even though he could scan BOTH numbers and figure out for himself which bag was missing... he wouldn't. J2 had to tell him which bag was missing. ) They are here! Yeah, big rush to get them inside, I explain that we need to call Larry & J2 back ASAP with the numbers. We get the bag & I call back.. too late. They've already been bumped to the back of the line. Don't worry they were 2nd to last anyway.
At this point, J2 & even Larry were upset & tired. The person in front of them came in on an international flight so it took 30 minutes to complete their claim. Finally.. their turn again. We'll call the guy helping them "Fred" for the story. So, J2 gives Fred the missing bag number. Fred puts in the numbers, looks up and says... "oh, your bag is in the back." Inside J2's head - if it's in the back, why didn't it come out on the carosel?? Fred asks J2 "Can you describe your bag?" J2 "It's Black." Fred "Uh, you just described 90% of the bags back there." Larry thinks to himself -what is the purpose of having a baggage # if you have to describe your bag to get it back? Can't you just compare the number on the ticket to the number on the bag?
At this point of their story telling I am thinking to myself, how would you describe a basic black suitcase? It's black with a zipper?? a handle? and it 's this big? Note to myself "purchase very distinct luggage- I'm thinking Lime Green with my picture ironed onto the front of it- there's no way they could mistake it then.. right? "
So reluctantly Fred goes to the "back" and immediately comes out with their suitcase. Yeah, at least it wasn't lost. They take the bag & leave, pondering on the BIG question.. why did have to wait in line when all the time the bag was in the "back". My thoughts.. Fred wouldn't have a job if no one came and stood in his line.. so he must get first dibs on the bags as they come off the plane and hide them in the "back" so he has something to do all night.
The Bunnells are finally here! and their bags too.
